Gourmet Evenings 2008

An evening of conviviality and a chance to try an eclectic range of wines and champagnes chosen by our Sommelier. Each wine is then matched with and complemented by Simon Radley’s excellent cuisine.
Perrier-Jouët Champagne
Thursday 22nd January 2009
Few Champagnes define an era, but Perrier-Jouët is one of them. At the turn of the 20th century, Europe entered “la Belle Epoque”, champagne was being consumed with passion in cafés, salons and grand hotels, and the leading brand was Perrier-Jouët. A specially enamelled bottle was created by Emile Gallé to celebrate the house’s fortunes. In 1964 the head of the house decided to create La Belle Epoque cuvée bottling it in a facsimile of the Gallé bottle. Join us to taste their fantastic range of champagne and try to create a bit of “la Belle Epoque” ourselves.

Cantine Giacomo Ascheri
Thursday 26th February 2009
Matteo Ascheri is a champion of natural winemaking, meaning he lets the grape and the soils do all the talking. His use of the highest quality fruit, natural yeasts to ferment the wines and belief in minimal intervention in the process, means that drinkers of these wines experience the unmistakable character of his Piedmont vineyards. His Barolos are intensely flavoured and floral with violets and dark roses and above all immensely enjoyable, especially when matched with Simon’s cuisine.
